Missing Cat Reunited with Family After a Decade Apart

Linda Ellerton’s hopes of reuniting with her missing cat seemed like a distant dream—until a heartwarming reunion happened more than ten years after Whiskas vanished.

The now 16-year-old feline was discovered in Chilton Moor, near Durham, UK, close to her previous home.

A local resident found Whiskas living in his shed and took her to a vet, where an old RSPCA microchip revealed her identity. Whiskas, who was adopted by Linda in 2007 after being rescued as a stray kitten, had disappeared in 2013.

After losing hope, Linda and her family had moved house, assuming their pet was lost forever. Linda was stunned when she saw the RSPCA’s online appeal. “I thought it couldn’t possibly be Whiskas after all these years,” she said. “The photos resembled her, but it had been so long and we never expected to see her again.” RSPCA inspector David Dawson shared the emotional moment of their reunion: “It was heartwarming to see Linda and Whiskas together again.

The reunion was very moving.” Whiskas, who had spent the last decade as a stray, is now receiving treatment for a kidney infection and is settling into her new home with Linda’s brother, David. “She’s 16 now and with my dog, it would be challenging for her to live with me,” David said.

“But I’m more than happy to take her in and keep her in the family.”
