With Halloween just around the corner, many households are gearing up with candy for trick-or-treaters—and maybe for themselves, too! Instacart has analyzed purchasing trends to reveal the most popular Halloween candies across the country.

To engage shoppers further, Instacart launched a new feature that allows users to enter their ZIP code and see their area’s “Scare Score,” which measures local Halloween spirit based on candy, costume, and decor purchases. According to their findings, Lehi, Utah, boasts the highest Halloween spirit, followed by Dallas, Texas, and Houston, Texas.

So, what treats are topping the shopping lists? Based on data from the month leading up to last Halloween, here are the Top 10 Halloween candies by total weight sold

“Comparing this year’s top 10 list to last year’s reveals some exciting shifts,” said Instacart’s Trends Expert, Laurentia Romaniuk. “We’ve welcomed three newcomers: Tootsie Pops, Sour Patch Kids, and Candy Corn. This mix showcases a delightful blend of nostalgic favorites and contemporary flavors.” Candy preferences also vary significantly by region. Instacart’s analysis shows that Utah has a penchant for Peanut M&M’s, a trend reflected in much of the Western U.S. In contrast, Texans are leaning towards Ferrero Rocher Hazelnut Chocolates

. In California, shoppers are reaching for Red Vines, while Twizzlers are more popular in states like Illinois and New York. Florida residents are opting for Dum Dum lollipops, while Georgians prefer Trolli Gummi Candy. Interestingly, Snickers didn’t make the top 10 but remains popular in Washington, D.C.

Tootsie Pops made a splash in three states, while Tootsie Rolls are favored in Oklahoma. Meanwhile, shoppers in Hawaii are buying a lot of Hi-Chews

. When looking at candy purchases per customer, Utah takes the lead, followed by Montana, Alaska, Idaho, and Wyoming. On the other hand, customers in Hawaii, Washington, D.C., Maine, Florida, and Alabama have bought the least candy, according to Instacart.

As Halloween approaches, it seems there’s no shortage of sweet treats to satisfy every kind of trick-or-treater!
