Watching the competitors display their amazing skills during the Olympic Games is entertaining. But in addition to marveling at their ability to push the limits of what we would consider conceivable, we also get to feel a variety of emotions.
You’re sitting on the edge of your seat in anticipation as the tension reaches an all-time high. However, there is a positive aspect to this incident. Some of the athletes’ behaviors make us laugh and cry. A compilation of some of the most hilarious incidents from the past Olympics may be seen here.
Lifeguard Boresome
Some of the most hilarious events in Olympic history occurred at the Rio 2016 Games. Some are more remembered than others. One example of this might be the lifeguard who gets bored while watching the games. But who could truly blame her? This would be your greatest option if you’re searching for a job that will not help you. Imagine waiting to provide poolside assistance to the best swimmers in the world, who would most likely be able to help one another more quickly than you could in the event of an accident!
The Face of Phelps
The expression on the face of USA competition swimmer Michael Phelps when his adversary, Chad Le Clos of South Africa, was just a few feet away would be considered a meme-worthy moment. They were scheduled to participate in a 200-meter butterfly semifinal just minutes prior. Since the Rio 2016 Olympics, his visage has appeared in numerous memes; even #PhelpsFace was trending. However, Phelps eventually acknowledged that he had no intention of doping and that the intense stare was caused by him dozing off while listening to music.
Swimmers are unable to throw.
During the 2016 Olympics, the distinction between swimming and throwing was made abundantly evident. Sun Yang tried to toss his cap to his supporters after winning a gold medal in the 200-meter men’s freestyle swimming event, but it took a totally different turn than he had planned. At the moment, it was embarrassing for Yang, but at least the supporters had something to chuckle about. Really, one should only do what they are competent at.
Too Soon to Celebrate a Victory
“Don’t count your chickens before they hatch,” as they say. In the Rio 2016 Olympics, Chinese fighter Lu Bin experienced this. He believed he had won and had already raised his fist when he heard Kenyan boxer Peter Mungai Warui declared the victor. Later, Lu Bin commented, “The judge has stolen my dream.” This remark has already been shared more than 140,000 times on social media.
How are these things used?
Since the Olympics are a major athletic event, some behaviors may be justified as the product of tension. Watching the Australian goalie try to drink water from the incorrect side of a bottle, however, was an entertaining moment. This occurred during the soccer quarterfinal between Brazil and Australia at the Rio Olympics. Her actions were likely the result of her being preoccupied with planning how to defeat the Brazilians and briefly forgetting how water bottles function. A GIF was created from this moment, and the video briefly went viral. It demonstrates that Olympians are also humans.
That Victorious Smile
One would assume that when racing, there would be no time to pose for a picture. How mistaken you are, then. Many amusing jokes and memes have been made about Usain Bolt’s victory smile from the 100-meter men’s race in Rio, which he appeared to be losing. He seemed to be trying to disprove everyone’s initial doubts about his abilities.
The Green Pool
When the diving pools’ water turned green at the Rio Olympics and had to be closed, the internet went crazy, creating a ton of memes and jokes. The organizers had previously asserted that the absence of wind and sunlight in the area had caused the water to turn emerald green. Later on, it was discovered that the contractor had poured hydrogen peroxide into the pool, which caused the murky green water to form when it combined with the chlorine.
“The Hunger Games?”
The ability and style of the broadcasters are often just as much of the focus of the Olympics as the athletes’ performances. Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir were supposed to dress up, but no one anticipated their appearance. The two gave the world the first memes for the 2016 Olympics while costumed as the Hunger Games broadcasters on the first day of the amazing games. At the Olympics, they attempted to evoke the Hunger Games, and it was successful!
Before a fall there is pride.
or, in this instance, arrogance. Just before the Rio 2016 110-meter hurdles semi-final, Haitian hurdler Jeffrey Julmis appeared calm, arrogant, and extremely confident in his skills. He didn’t live up to the pre-race pretense, though, as soon as the race began. When he stumbled over the first obstacle, his predicament became a GIF and meme. Nevertheless, he got up and finished the marathon. You are superior to the others if you can view the video without laughing.
