After being stranded at a supermarket in western Sydney for a month, Mickey, the cockatoo, is finally returning to the wild.

The bird had flown into the supermarket through the loading dock and had evaded capture attempts for weeks. A generous manager had provided him with water and Coles brioche for dinner.

However, there were worries. A place where there was never total darkness left Mickey feeling worried and worn out.

According to rumors on Tuesday, a kill order had been issued, meaning he had even diced with death.

Penny Sharpe, the environment minister for NSW, was eager to reassure the public that attempts to capture Mickey alive would continue and that there was no license to kill him.

Ultimately, he was easily apprehended and taken out of the retail mall.

The director of the neighboring Feathered Friends sanctuary, Ravi Wasan, a Campbelltown native, used a female friend to entice Mickey away from his retail sanctuary.

He was terrified if you had a net or basket. I got the cutest cockatoo when I visited a bird sanctuary. He told ABC on Wednesday, “I brought her with me to convince Mickey that we’re safe and that we’re trying to be friends.”

To be honest, Doris performed the majority of the effort. It was absolutely exciting to see Mickey fly straight down as soon as I let Doris out [on Tuesday afternoon]. There would have been no other cockatoo he would have missed.

We kind of started things off that way. After that, things began to alter that afternoon. When he was hungry at two o’clock, I returned. Doris was making every effort to capture Mickey’s interest.

Mickey quickly showed there, according to Wasan, after he loaded Doris onto a shopping cart and began feeding her.

Mickey flew over when he noticed that. I continued to feed Doris. And perhaps 20 attempts were made. He was so untrustworthy that he kept flying off,” he claimed.

Then he realized that I’m a kind man and won’t harm him if I’m feeding Doris. He eventually began eating from my hand. We used Doris to entice him into a cage, and I hurried inside before closing the door.

Mickey was securely nestled in the Feathered Friends refuge by Wednesday.

Before being released back into the wild, he should have some rehabilitation, veterinary examinations, and time with Doris.

At the moment, they are seated together. One of the trained cockies is her. She’s really skilled in assuring Mickey that everything is fine. And I believe it will be a pleasant release,” Wasan remarked.
