Cara and Colin McBurnie, the owners, were terrified when they searched the neighborhood but couldn’t find Beans.
According to Ms. McBurnie, Beans “went out as normal because he likes to go for a wander,” but it “always comes home for some food, usually after a few hours.”
Adding, “We searched and searched, looking everywhere,” the 40-year-old continued. “I’ve been searching all day, but I kept thinking something must have happened to him.
“I didn’t really expect to see him again but joined lots of local lost and found Facebook pages, then further afield in Scotland.”
Cats Protection contacted the McDonalds a few weeks later to inform them that Beans had been located in Coventry, hundreds of miles away, owing to the microchip.

I didn’t feed him right away because I assumed he was probably owned, but I woke up to find him sound asleep in the kitty box, and I kept seeing him there the following days.
“I just gave him a few biscuits to start, but I heard he was going to visit other neighbours too. It felt like he was around too much and that something wasn’t quite right.”
After Ms. Ryan posted about the missing cat online, Cats Protection contacted Ms. McBurnie.
The following day, we returned the beans to their rightful owners. No one has yet figured out how the cat got here.
Ms. McBurnie expressed her shock by saying, “I couldn’t believe he was still alive and had traveled over 300 miles.”
She continued, “I am grateful that we microchipped him and updated his record.” Otherwise, he would never have returned to us.
