It never occurred to Linda Ellerton that she would see her cat Whiskas again. But more than ten years after the cherished cat vanished, the two have been reunited in a heartfelt reunion.
The 16-year-old Whiskas was discovered on Chilton Moor, close to Durham, UK, where she had resided prior to going missing.
In December, a local neighbor discovered her living in his shed and took her to a veterinarian, where it was discovered that she had an outdated RSPCA microchip.
After being discovered as a stray kitten by the RSPCA in Scotland, Whiskas was taken in by Linda in 2007. After six years of living with Linda, Whiskas vanished, and the family moved after losing all hope of ever seeing their pet again. The organization posted an online appeal, alerting Linda, who hadn’t seen Whiskas since 2013.
She said, “I thought the photos looked like her, but it had been so long and we’d never thought we’d see her again.” “When I saw the RSPCA Facebook post, I thought it couldn’t possibly be Whiskas after all these years,” she said.
“When she didn’t show up one night, we assumed she had moved somewhere else.”
The pair’s reunion was poignant, according to RSPCA inspector David Dawon:
The reunion of Linda and Whiskas after all these years was satisfying. It was rather touching to watch her hug with her.

Whiskas is believed to have been a stray for the previous ten years. Since then, she has developed a kidney illness that will need continuous care. The black and white cat is doing well after her adventure and is currently residing with Linda’s brother, David:
“A cat her age would find it challenging to live with me now that I have a dog, but my brother David was more than happy to take her and keep her in the family.” She is sixteen years old.
